One of the great things about traveling is sampling the food and culture of various places around the world.
After eating Balut in the Philippines, fried spiders and crickets in various parts of Asia, guinea pig in South America, Casu Marzu (Google it) in Italy or Escamole in Mexico you sometimes get a craving for food from back home.
For Americans, one of the best times to enjoy some comfort food is on the 4th of July, American Independence Day.
Just because you might be trekking in Central America or wandering around Europe doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some 4th of July celebrations and grab a little reminder of back home cookouts.
Here are a few places where you might want to check out if you’re in the neighborhood.
The American Independence Day Party in Paris is being hosted by Expats Paris along with help from the Franco American Meetup Group. A chance to meet some people, network, enjoy a buffet meal and more.
Another Paris 4th of July party will be held by Meetmeout YEP and Expats & Erasmus groups near the Champs Elysées in Paris.
If you happen to be in Baja Mexico you might want to look into the Rosarito Beach Hotel celebration package which coincides with a huge fireworks display put on by a local volunteer organization. The hotel and resort are offering special packages for those wanting to stay at the resort.
The American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand is hosting a huge celebration in Bangkok with all the goodies. A BBQ with real American hot dogs, burgers and ribs, along with apple pie and ice cream and a selection of classic and craft American beers. There will also be food booths set up by companies like Jack Daniels, Dairy Queen and Coca Cola. Bands, games for all and a charity raffle round out the festivities.
Ecuador has become popular with retirees and travelers both. The Quito Hiking Club is having a BBQ and fireworks show and in Cuenca, the Hearts of Gold Foundation is having a BBQ, auction, fireworks show and local entertainment.
If you are in Costa Rica the American Colony will be having Coney Island hot dogs, beer and soft drinks, fireworks and volleyball.
If you happen to be traveling in other parts of the world check out the US Embassy website for the country you are in. Many Embassies will be hosting 4th of July celebrations.
Other options are to check out expat groups and see what they have in store for the holidays.
If all else fails, grab a few friends, other travelers and locals and throw your own party.

Hey Bob,
There’s nothing like celebrating a good old fashion holiday like the 4th of July. Time for barbecuing and hitting the beach.
I can only imagine if you’re traveling a lot and missing that kind of food, that might be difficult but looks like you’ve shared some great places for people in those parts of the country to have a little taste of home. That’s really amazing that they have those types of places. That’s seriously cool now.
I’m not a big traveler as you know although we did just return from a trip to the Bahamas. We will be home for the 4th so Mom and I were just talking about maybe having some good old juicy ribs. You can’t beat those right!
Wish us luck and happy 4th of July ahead of time.

Absolutely! I’m from Texas so any excuse to cook meat over fire is a good thing. It helps to every now and then grab some food from back home when traveling. Enjoy the ribs and thanks for stopping by Adrienne.
Great roundup of July 4th celebrations! It’s great you can find Americans to celebrate with all over the world.
